Sculptra is an injectable product used to correct the signs of facial aging caused by volume loss. As aging occurs, fat is lost from the face causing hollows, furrows and flattening of contours.

Sculptra is used to fill out wrinkles, furrows and hollows making the skin appear firmer and smoother. Sculptra increases the thickness of the skin in areas where fat has been lost. It helps restore fullness to the face for a more natural youthful appearance.

Sculptra is made of poly-L-lactic acid. Poly-L-lactic aced (PLLA) is a synthetic product which is compatible with human tissues and biodegradable (broken down by the body over time). PLLA has been used in the United States for many years in dissolvable stitches and soft tissue implants.

Sculptra Before and After

What areas can be treated?

Sculptra can be used in all parts of the face including the forehead, around the eyes and lips and the cheeks. However it is only FDA approved for cosmetic use in the nasolabial furrows (smile lines) Sculptra can also add volume to the cheekbone area, the chin, temples and jawline.

What should I expect?

It is important to avoid aspirin, Advil, Motrin and similar medications for at least 10 days prior to treatment to minimize bruising. Topical anesthetic cream applied to the areas will help alleviate discomfort from the injections. The treatment takes 15-30 minutes. Sculptra is injected beneath the skin with a small needle. Initially there will be some swelling and there may be some discomfort, tenderness, bleeding or bruising of the treatment sites. This will subside in a few days to a week. Occasionally small bumps may form under the skin. Local massage to the area will help them resolve should they occur.

The injected areas should be massaged several times a day for the first week.

How many treatments will I need?

During your consultation, the doctor will examine you and decide the number of treatment sessions and amount of Sculptra you will need. Most will require 1-3 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. For superficial wrinkles, you may need combination therapy with Collagen or Juvederm injections.

When will I notice my results?

Sculptra causes a gradual increase in collagen formation and skin thickness. The effects may improve over several months.

How long will Sculptra last?

Sculptra has been clinically proven to be long lasting and well tolerated. Increases in skin thickness lasted 18 months up to 2 years.
